Maintenance and Storage for The Firefighter Pool Pump

Keeping your Firefighter Pool Pump in top condition ensures it’s ready when you need it most. With just a few simple steps, you can keep your pump running reliably year after year.

Because your satisfaction is our top priority, we also offer an optional Extended Service Plan — available in our Shop section — which includes an annual inspection from one of our Expert Pump Operators (EPOs). During each visit, your EPO will inspect all major components, replace fluids, and confirm your pump’s performance and readiness.

All mechanical equipment benefits from regular maintenance — and your Firefighter Pool Pump is designed to make it easy. A few quick steps will keep it dependable for years to come.

For complete maintenance procedures, please refer to your Operator’s Manual.

✅ Simple Steps to Keep Your Pump Fire-Ready

1. Engine Oil Maintenance

Change the engine oil after the first 4 hours of use, then every 50 hours thereafter. For long-term or seasonal storage, change the oil at least once per year — even if the pump hasn’t been used. Always check and maintain the oil level before each start to ensure smooth operation.

2. FUEL GUIDELINES FOR STORAGE

Gasoline can degrade over time, especially with ethanol blends. To keep your engine ready:

  • Use fresh fuel whenever possible.
  • For standby or seasonal storage, add a fuel stabilizer (such as Sta-Bil, 1 oz per 2.5 gallons) to fresh gasoline, then run the engine for a few minutes so the treated fuel circulates through the carburetor.
  • If storing for longer than six months, you may drain the tank and carburetor following the steps in your Operator’s Manual.

These steps help prevent corrosion, varnish, and hard-starting — ensuring your pump is ready when you need it.

3. Spark Plug Maintenance

Replace the spark plug every 100 hours of operation or once per year, whichever comes first. Regular maintenance ensures easier starting and smoother performance.

4. Battery Care

If storing the unit for more than 3 months, disconnect the battery cable to prevent drainage. Recharge the battery at least once every 3 months while in storage to maintain optimal performance.

5. STORAGE AREA

Store your Firefighter Pool Pump in a dry, level, well-ventilated area, safely out of reach of children. Keep the engine’s cooling vents clear of debris, and avoid storing near ignition sources such as furnaces, water heaters, or clothes dryers.

6. KEEP IT READY

Run your pump briefly every 2–3 months during extended storage. Connect it to a water source, prime it, and let it run for 15–20 minutes. This helps circulate treated fuel and oil, keeps internal parts lubricated, and ensures the pump stays “Fire-Ready.”
